Qualifying salary criteria for dependent privileges set to increase

Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has recently raised the qualifying salary criteria for work pass holders (Employment Pass and S Pass) to qualify for dependant privileges. This is to ensure that the main pass holder can support their dependants in Singapore.

What has changed?

Work pass holders need to meet a minimum fixed monthly salary of S$6,000 to sponsor their spouse/child under the age of 21 on a Dependent Pass (DP).

Work pass holders need to meet a minimum fixed monthly salary of S$12,000 to sponsor parents on a Long Term Visitors Pass (LTVP)

When will the change be effective?

New minimum salary requirements will go into effect on 1 January 2018.

New DP applications for a spouse/child and LTVP applications for parents received before 1 January 2018 will be assessed using the current criteria (pre-1 January 2018) which is for the main work pass holder to earn at least S$5,000 to be eligible to sponsor dependents and at least S$10,000 to sponsor parents.

The change does not affect renewals for DPs and LTVPs approved or issued before 1 January 2018 provided that the main pass holder remains with the same employer/sponsoring company.
