According to ECA International’s recent ‘Location Ratings System’, Singapore continues to offer the best living environment for Asian expatriates amongst 400 locations world-wide. Singapore has maintained its position as the ‘Best Place for Asian Exapts to Live In’ not for one, two or three years but for a whopping 11 years. Singapore has also topped other similar surveys in recent times. For instance, in the Mercer 2008 Quality of Living survey, Singapore emerged as ‘Asia s Best Location to Live, Work and Play.’

According to Lee Quane, Regional Director, Asia, ECA International,

“Singapore s high quality infrastructure and health facilities, combined with low health risks, air pollution, crime rates and a cosmopolitan population help make the city an easy place for Asian assignees to live in.”

Singapore’s rising popularity amongst the expatriate population can be attributed to the high quality of living that the city-state offers. Some of the factors that impact a foreign professional’s decision to relocate to another country includes personal safety, medical facilities, standard of schooling, and good infrastructure – factors that Singapore scores highly on.

Singapore is also an easy country to adjust to when relocating from elsewhere. It offers a modern and westernized environment while scoring high on safety and low crime rates. The wide use of English and efficiency of government departments is notable and attracts foreigners. The nation’s high quality of transport, infrastructure and health facilities cannot go unnoticed. Above all, it offers a clean, green and healthy environment to live in.

It is interesting to note that while the Singapore government has consciously crafted a liberal immigration policy to attract foreign talent, it has also created a sustainable living environment that attracts foreign professionals and entrepreneurs to its shores.
