According to the latest results of the Global Power City Index by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation, Singapore is the 5th most attractive city in the world, especially for businesses.

While New York tops the list, followed by London, Paris and Tokyo, Singapore ranks 5th out beating rival Hong Kong and other developed cities of the world. The survey covers 35 of the world s major cities and has ranked their attractiveness across various parameters including economy, livability, accessibility etc.

The survey indicates that Singapore is highly evaluated by business professionals for its business growth potential, ease of doing business, available human resources, business friendly environment and stable political and economic climate.

In recent months several business indices, rankings and surveys have been conducted by various professional institutions. A notable feature common across all the rankings is that Singapore has consistently featured at the top of the list. In most cases it has stepped ahead of Hong Kong, proving that it is the regional hub of Asia. Consistent reform and pro-business policies has created an environment that is most suitable for business – from 1 day company incorporation to low corporate taxes to liberal immigration policies.

In today’s volatile economic climate the success or failure of a business rides upon where it is located. Although London, New York and Hong Kong remain matured financial and business centers, they need not necessarily be the best place to set up a business. Having set the benchmark for ease of starting and doing business, Singapore is the preferred location for most business savvy entrepreneurs.
